It’s Pessach. Mazza everywhere. Every Jewish household did what we all do – clean. We survived the Sederim and can now enjoy the rest of the Chag. As much as that is possible.
I have been working during Chol HaMoed this year. Meaning, I went to work and spent a lot of time simply looking at Facebook and reading what other people were up to. As I scroll through the stories, I come across a posting by a Jewish community in Germany. They had several activities planned before and during the holiday. I will admit, I am a bit jealous. Oh well.
As I check out their schedule, I see they even have an event for ladies. I don’t know who the person is they have invited for the event, but I see the words “wine” and “cheese” and I’m sure, it will be great. I don’t think about it more and finally start getting some work done.
A couple days later, I am on Facebook again and see pictures postet from that event. There I see plenty of women, sitting together, listening to the woman talk in front.
The pictures are accompanied by a text. One little sentence stands out to me.
they learnt how to arrange a cheeseboard nicely
I sat there and stared at the words. The event for women was on how to put cheese on a plate. Really? That is what could be done for women on Pessach? Wasn’t it possible to find another connection between this holiday and Jewish women? Why not add some words of Tora? Or dare I demand, why not learn some Tora, Halacha, Midrash – for all I care?
